"Muppet" Paddy Pimblett called out for fight in New York by fellow UFC rising star

Pimblett is frequently called out by lightweights up and down the UFC's roster, but one name that has consistently stuck out is the fast-finishing prospect McKinney

Paddy Pimblett has been branded a "muppet" by rising UFC star Terrance McKinney, who wants to fight the Brit at Madison Square Garden.

Pimblett's close friend and teammate Molly McCann will compete at UFC 281 in the famous New York venue against Erin Blanchfield. And the Scouse fighters have frequently insisted that when it comes to fighting, they are a package deal having shared all three cards since Pimblett signed with the promotion last year.

After hearing that McCann would be added to the super-card, which will be headlined by the trilogy fight between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira for the middleweight title, McKinney took to Twitter to take another shot at Pimblett. He has called the Brit out since he joined the UFC, but has been unable as yet to land significantly on his radar.

"So does that mean she’s bringing the muppet with her?" McKinney asked in response to MMA journalist Ariel Helwani confirming McCann's fight news. "I want to fight in MSG."

Pimblett has previously stated he doesn't want to fight in New York City due to the hefty taxes imposed on people who work there. Foreign fighters already have to pay taxes in both America and their home country when they fight away from home, and face some of the biggest indents to their cheques when fighting in the Big Apple.

UFC president Dana White floated the idea of the Brit fighting on November's card after his third successive stoppage in the promotion over Jordan Leavitt last month. But Pimblett wasn't having it, insisting that the tax issue was too much.

“I think what we do next is we take him to either Boston or New York and he ends up on pay-per-view and then you bring him to Vegas," White said, before Pimblett replied: "No I am not fighting in New York. End of. I am not fighting in New York. I am not getting robbed by the taxman."

McKinney has yet to be taken out of the first round in his four-fight UFC career, and has spent a grand total of just seven minutes and 52 seconds in the octagon to date. That includes a seven-second KO of Matt Frevola and a short-notice defeat by Drew Dober in March, but he returned to winning ways with a first round submission of Erick Gonzalez last weekend.

However, he has admitted he feels it's unlikely that he will get an opportunity at Pimblett next, given his pedigree in the promotion. His one loss under the banner was to Dober, who is a 36-fight veteran whose win over McKinney was his ninth in the UFC, and he entered his debut against Matt Frevola as an underdog, which Pimblett has yet to do.

McKinney feels he and Pimblett won't meet until the pair are ranked and the fight can be a major draw. He said during an appearance on The MMA Hour this week he feels the Scouser is taking "baby steps" in the promotion.
